Old Greater Daemon of Nurgle

This is my classic Realm of Chaos era Citadel 'Greater Daemon of Nurgle' or 'Great Unclean One' from the late 80s.
I'd wanted one of these for years and finally managed to get hold of this model when I was helping out at THW last year (I had it put aside for me to buy before it went on eBay). One of the best things about this model and the other Greater Demon models of the time is that they had a lot of interchangeable variant parts, when bought in the store you'd get a random combination of the different arms, legs, heads and so on - or if you mail-ordered your model you could actually choose which combination of parts you got. The upshot of all this of course was that the model you purchased an almost unique combination of parts - it would never be truly unique because there is finite number of combinations of parts, but the likelihood of having the same combination as someone else was pretty slim.
This particular model consists of: Head 2, Horns 3, Shoulders 2, Right Arm 1, Left Arm 3, Belly 4, the 'normal' Legs (without Nurglings) and the Back (there was only ever 1 variant of the back piece). In the unlikely event that you're interested in exactly what parts I'm talking about here is a link to a catalogue page on Stuff of Legends listing all the parts.
A little while after purchasing this model I also managed to get hold of Head 3 (the one with tentacles) and for a while considered using it on my model, but in the end I went with the head it had already been assembled with because I didn't want to risk damaging the model by pulling it apart to replace the head (it's a proper miniature made of Lead after all!).
Still the model was in need of a little work before I painted it - I had to reattach and bend the left arm back into shape and fill a few gaps with GreenStuff here and there. I also removed the original 40mm Square base the model came with and remounted it on a 40mm round base decorated with textured plasticard and some suitably grizzly bits from a Mantic Skeleton Sprue.
When it came to painting I took full advantage of the variety of off-green colours provided by the Formula P3 range, dry brushing them alternately in patches with similar tones of brown from the Coat d' Arms range to achieve the mottled green-brown of the skin, this received extreme highlights of Citadel Dwarf Flesh and Rotting Flesh to pick out the warts, pustules and boils. The open wounds were painted P3 Sanguine Base and highlighted P3 Skorne Red followed by Coat d' Arms Blood Red and the demon's tongue with it's pharyngeal-jaw got similar treatment.
The teeth, claws and horns were painted Citadel Graveyard Earth and built up to a bone colour using carefully dry brushed layers of Coat d' Arms British Khaki, P3 Jack Bone, P3 Menoth White Base and Coat d' Arms Bone.
The eye (he's got one eye closed) was painted Citadel Badmoon Yellow, washed with Citadel Orange Ink and highlighted with Coat d' Arms Sun Yellow.
I then used Citadel Red Ink and Baal Red to glaze and shade the wounds, painting little streaks of red running down from the wounds to make them look as if they are weeping and oozing. I also used Citadel Green Ink, Green Glaze and Red Glaze along with Army Painter Strong Tone Ink and Citadel Ork Fleshwash to glaze and pick out several of the warts and boils and add further streaks of blood, puss, bile and other such discharges seeping out of the demon's wounds and orifices.
I'm going to have to apologize for the quality of these photos, the lighting has not been kind to me, but I've tried my best with what I had.
For the bonus picture this time, here is my RoC era Greater Demon of Nurgle next to my mid-90s Greater Demon of Nurgle which I painted (what must now be) quite a few years ago
