These rather nice miniatures are 4 Lava Worms from Eastern Front Studios The 2 Lava Worms on the left have received some slight conversion in the form of some minor re-posing done by sawing though the worm's body between segments, pinning it into a new position and then filling the graps with greenstuff. The worms 2 on the right are completely stock and all 4 have been mounted on plastic 25mm round bases and greenstuff plus a few chucks of model railway ballast has been used to extend the detail of the worm's integral bases onto the plastic bases.
These were rather fun miniatures to paint because once I'd got the basic concept of the colour scheme worked out after talking to Mick Leach about them, they pretty much painted themselves. I painted all 4 at once in exactly the same way, but for ease of writing and not having to struggle with constantly changing from singles to plurals and back again all the time I'm going to talk about just one model - if you like you can pretend I'm talking about a particular model, lets say the 3rd one from the left.
After black undercoat the entire model was dry-brushed with Citadel Scorched Brown followed by Citadel Graveyard Earth - this not only served as the base 'browning' for the model by also conveniently provided the colouring for the earth on the base. I painted worm's body with a thin layer of P3 Sanguine Base allowing the shading of the 'browning' underneath to show through, this was then highlighted with a dry-brushing of good old Citadel Terracotta.
Next I painted the rocks with Citadel Charadon Granite which was then highlighted with P3 Ironhull Grey followed by Army Painter Uniform Grey and finally Citadel Codex Grey.
I then began working on the 'lava' effect on the head by giving most of the front of the head a heavy dry brushing of P3 Khador Red Base - I then highlighted this with Citadel Blood Angles Red followed by Citadel Hobgoblin Orange, a 50/50 mix of Citadel Hobgoblin Orange and P3 Morrow White and finally an extreme highlight of pure Morrow White. To finish up I gave the rocks a little extra shading by running some watered down Citadel Badab Black Wash into their recesses

As for bonus pictures, well I don't really have anything this time so instead here's some semi-random shout outs:
Mick Leach - Thanks for the Lava Worms and the advice on the colour scheme
Messy - Your name appears on the rune plaque in the background of this photo, thanks for all the unseen work you've been doing toward the dungeon project lately
