Most enjoyable version of the game? (I can appreciate the bias of nostalgia on this one)
2nd edition (same as first but with a graphics upgrade?)
4th Edition (Black Library Edition)
FFG Current Edition (Revised 4th?)
I don't see a lot of 3rd edition players was this a least favorite version? From what I have seen and read in comments the rules for the game was streamlines quite a bit from 2nd to 3rd edition. It's the only one I have played and find it excellent and just long enough. I am not sure a 5-7 hour game (as commonly mentioned from 1st and 2nd Edition suit me...)
I am curious about FFG's edition though. And it has a lot of expansions for it.
Hi WillOhio, I always thought that apart from the art and all of the extra plastic counters that the rules never really changed?
I think I'm in the 1st/2nd camp because I always liked the Chalk/Dever(?) line art.
I played the iPad Talisman prologue game recently but the single quest novelty wore off pretty quick. The pleasure of Talisman really does come from playing against others and thwarting their progress.
Maybe you could run this as a poll?
(Mortis - do we have a polling tool?)
Mark me down as a fan of 2nd (I think) - colour board, Games Workshop, Dever/Chalk line art. Although, I think my own copy has actually gone mouldy!
Although I would have benefited from the alternative endings - I hated Crown of Command as the ultimate goal- often the first player the get there would be promptly deposed by the nearest player because it wasn't powerful enough (only took one life at a time).
I also have the Talisman:Prologue and echo your sentiments. It was good for about 2 hours.... then it's
simply like playing a single player Talisman game. And you remove 3/4 of the enjoyment... watching other
people Questing, opening up new opportunities on the board, thwarting their chances at the win.
Adding the Dragon's Tower makes the end game much different...
Now having had a chance to dig into the 2nd edition assets. I do like the more traditional fantasy art style. But I am just not very enamored with the Character sheet art though. I think the art is fine... but the unity of the graphic design is lacking (imnsho) I do love the old miniatures they made for the game. IT feels very hodge-podge. But I can totally appreciate the Nostalgia of this ...
