Billiam Babble

pure awsomeness!

it's tempting me to have a go at my idea of running Firetop Mountain as a HeroQuest adventure ...

That map looks very much like the sort you'd get in Heroquest. Go for it!

To over complicate some rather simple game books, but feed the nostalgia, I believe there's some d20 scenario adaptations of some of the FF books.  I found them whilst trying to search for d20 solo games.

Myriador appears to no longer exist. But I these are purchasable as PDFs, I think.

Ah yes I have Myriador's D20 Caverns of the Snow Witch  book never have got round to running it though. One of the most interesting bits of the book is the appendix which details D20 stats for things like Titan World style trolls, the Ice Demon and of course the vampiric Snow Witch her self (and man dose she look hott in the cover art)

^ Oh yea! I'd like to penetrate her dungeon defenses!

Excellent!
I'm intrigued by this.  I'm wondering how FF situations would adapt to a d20 / level based system.  In Warlock of Firetop Mountain, one character would probably have to be at least 6th level - to despatch Orcs, zombies, vampires and a dragon, with four characters perhaps 3rd Level would be the minimum?  Perhaps I'm over thinking this.
I also won a copy of Out of the Pit on Ebay (99p + p+p) - which I never had, but still have some of the Out of the Pit articles from Warlock magazine.   I really like some of the illustrations.
Are the maps any good in Caverns of the Snow Witch? (not that I'm fixated on maps or anything ...)

There's an ok-ish B/W grid-based map dungeon map on the inside of the front cover that looks like it was done in photoshop, but back when I first got the book new the Myriador website provided a downloadable colour 1” grid 'Battle Map' for use with miniatures and tokens (if I still have the files knocking around I'll make them available here) I also seem to remember a rather disappointing piece of dungeon mapping software that didn't do quite what was promised.

As for party size and level, the D20 Caverns of the Snow Witch is designed for a party of 3 Level 8 characters and recommends you bring along a Cleric. Of course like most D20 adventures it also has the usual paragraph that gives you a stupidly long list of things to change to scale the adventure for lower level parties (make the cultist in the great hall level 3 rather than 5, half the number of Orcs in the cave entrance, place Healing Potions every 10 feet and replace the Troll in area 4 with a small wounded kitten).

Also I recently added The Warlock or Firetop Mountain D20 module to collection and I have obtained a PDF of the DeathTrap Dungeon D20 module.

Ace!
Can you post a screen-grab or sample scan of maps from those modules?  I'm very curious as to the style or layout.

Can do! I shall post some stuff from Caverns of the Snow Witch and Death Trap Dungeon but I will not be posting anything from Warlock of Firetop Mountain on the forum as I plan to run the adventure in the near future and several players from my group are members here. (I can however Email you WoFTM stuff if you'd like).

Sorry about the lack of posts recently, I've been spending a lot more time painting miniatures recently (pictures coming soon)

As promised here's the maps from the D20 versions of Caverns of the Snow Witch and Death Trap Dungeon (PDF format). As you'll no doubt notice they aren't exactly like the original books but to have (roughly) the same encounters. When I get some free time in the week I shall write an in-depth ... er ... thing on the differences between the D20 modules and the original FF game books, which will have to contain a big spoiler warning.

Also I might post the D20 profiles of the FF creatures detailed in the books.

Caverns_Of_The_Snow_Witch_%28d20%29.pdf

006_Deathtrap_Dungeon_%28d20%29.pdf

as you can see the artwork on the maps is nothing special really and pretty much average for a  D20 module produced under the OGL, sample pages to come later too.
