Fimir

Here's 2 HeroQuest Fimir I re-based and painted up recently as part of my long term back burner 'Restored HeroQuest' project
see: http://the-lost-and-the-damned.664610.n2.nabble.com/WIP-HeroQuest-minis-td4115542.html#a4115542

I've been experimenting with Karnoc Green, Camo Green, Catachan Green and Gretchin Green on their skin to make it a more olive-green type colour to make it look different from Orc and Goblin skin. What do you think guys?

There's 2 more of these, re-based and ready to be painted, one of which I've converted into a Fimm-Noble (Fimir Champion) and given a Sword and Shield. I've also got loads more HQ Fimir lying round in boxes from the many copies of HQ I've gained over the years but I'm unlikely to paint up many more as I won't get to use Fimir that much in games (but I am looking forward to using the ones I've done).

When I've painted my HQ miniatures, to make them different from the orcs, I've opted for a lighter colour scheme, (I don't remember the colours, maybe dark green ink wash, goblin green+bilious green and goblin green+skull white... I'm not sure )
I think that you used a better solution to characterize them. I think that this really is an effective colours combination! The paintjob is superb as always!

thanks dude!

I think I might try doing a Fimir in a paler green to see how it comes out. I don't think GW ever really settled on a particular colour for Fimir flesh an old advert for the metal models in WD had them painted in all kinds of colours from a green-ish browns to almost yellow-green, I've even seen a painting of a Fimir in a HeroQuest book with ruddish human looking skin.
The description in WFRP1 says “their hides are smooth and leathery, and colour varies from buff to a light olive green” that's quite a wide range of colour in there ...

Hahahahaah!
Mists stir in the marshlands to the south, there are rumours of a darkening shadow and a grotesque hooded stranger has been seen wandering the land claiming to be the emissary of a dark power that sleeps ... Little do you know of the growing threat to the Empire! ... oh ... have I said too much?

oh dear, i feel strangely frightened for the safety of my characters!  can they go back to being something other than adventurers?  something safer like crocodile denistry, or poisionous snake farming?

Farming? Farming!? What do think this is ... World of Warcraft?
Next you'll be asking for quests where you take letters back and forth or collect bear-paws for NPCs  lol

++Update on my Fimir++

In addition to the re-based HeroQuest Fimir (which I still need to paint more of), I picked up this rather battered Dirach in a job lot of 2nd hand miniatures

After a paint stripping session to clean it up and lot of restoration work it should be in shape to head up my Fimir!

I'm referring to paints from the Citadel range, I use a few different makes of paints including Coat d' Arms and MP but tend to refer to the names of colours given by the Citadel range as Citadel paints are the most readily available

Citadel Paints can be purchased in all Games Workshop Stores and most other places that stock GW products, you can order them online from:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/
but I'd recommend buying them from:
http://www.triplehelixwargames.co.uk
for the 10% discount

MP painted used to be sold by Ral Partha Europe, but they don't seem to be stocking them at the moment, but few people on eBay still stock them. they do a very good Black Primer that is excellent for undercoats

Re: Fimir

In your debt again...................I have bookmarked those 2 sites & noted that triple helix is cheaper.I did look on ebay for mp but no luck today & the Ral Partha website has no paints as you say...............but I remember they did some fantastic dragons in the 90's.My mate got one & it was really nicely sculpted.I am looking for a better black primer than the Wilkinsons matt black I am currently using-its cheap but not so cheerful.

The full name of MP paints is "Miniature Paints" and I see them listed as "Minipaints" too. None of these are particularly good terms to google.

Orcsnest stock them if you are in London and you can buy them online from
 http://www.leisuregames.com/acatalog/MiniPaints_Paint_Range.html

I really like the MP paint range. You get a nice big volume for about half the price of GW.

For basic colours such as Black or White there is little point in buying the GW stuff when the MP paint does just as good a job and works out as so much better value. MP Chainmail, incidentally is the equivalent of GW Boltgun metal, so I tend to use this instead.

MP also has some very useful unique colours. Blue Steel is a very nice metalic blue. Use it on its own or to highlight Tamiya metalic blue. MP Gold is very nice for drybrushing over Brazen Brass etc. MP Pale Flesh is in fact a very light cream colour. It forms a nice highlight for bleached bone or rotting flesh and tends to get used for teeth and claws rather than skin. Canary Yellow, Violet, Heather and Porcelain Blue are all nice colours.

As Mortis says, "Black Primer" is very handy and "White Primer" is often used for painting eyes because it is nice and fluid.

The jar I most use, however, is their black ink. Diluted with just a flake of soap a wash of this finishes most models, adding shadow and realism.
