Here's 3 creatures I got from Scotia Grendel recently, they are sold together in a set of 3 as “Dungeon Crawlers” and are, as you can see very high quality resin miniatures.
1&2: The Gigantic Centipede was a nice model to paint. For the Carapace I used a base-coat of Scab Red, highlighted up through Red Gore to Blood Red, I then gave it wash of Baal Red and then worked some Badab Black into the recesses between the plates. I then highlighted the edges of the plates with a little more Blood Red.
For the head I wanted to use Terracotta, but my MK1 pot of Terracotta recently ran out and I discovered to my horror that Citadel had stopped making it (again). So I ended up having to mix up several shades of terracotta like colours using Mechrite Red and a paint called 'Terracotta' (from a different company) which was a much, much lighter shade. The Legs, Mandibles and the Spike on the tail were painted Graveyard Earth, highlighted up through Komando Karki to a 50/50 mixture of Bleached Bone and Komando Karki. I painted the eyes Iyanden Darksun highlighted up to Badmoon Yellow and Sunburst Yellow, although I'm not sure if the eyes look right in yellow, so I might go back and paint them a dark blue instead.
3&4: The Slug-Leech was a much simpler paint job, the main body was painted Orkhide Shade and highlighted up through Knarloc Green up to a mixture of Camo Green and Goblin Green. The Slime was painted Dark Angels Green highlighted up through Snot Green to Goblin Green, given a wash of Green Ink and finally a layer of Green Glaze. The underneath of the creature was also given a coat of Green Glaze to make it different from the upper flesh. The Teeth were painted in the usual way I do bone and the like and the tongue was painted Gore Red highlighted up to Blood Red and given a glaze of Red Ink.
5: The 3rd creature, I have yet to paint because I'm not sure exactly what this creature is, Scotia Grendel's website says it's Lizard but the head doesn't look particularly lizard like and it's got chitinous looking plates down it's back and tail. If anyone has any suggestions as to what colours might look good on this creature and/or what exactly it is, I'd be interested to hear them.
