4 Cave Squigs
Posted by MortiS-the-Lost –
I painted up these Cave Squigs recently to accompany my Goblins into battle and gnash the limbs off adventurers who dare stumble into their underground domain.
Although I knew I wanted to go with the classic red colour scheme for my Squigs I also wanted some variation in their colour so that they didn't look too uniform. To this end I painted them each with different red-ish colours. The first Squig with the big teeth and gums is an orangey-red achieved by adding a little Blood-Angel's Red and then Fiery Orange to each shade of highlight. For the second Squig (my favourite of the bunch) with all it's scales and horns, I used darker reds but gave the scales a final highlight of Ruby Red to make the detail stand out all the more. The 3rd squig is highlighted up to an almost fleshy colour, while the final Squig uses purple and magenta washes for a more beetroot type colour. So although they are all red, none of them are the same red. All the squigs got bone coloured teeth and horns using my usual technique of highlighting up from brown and yellow eyes using Iyanden Darksun, Badmoon Yellow and a glaze of yellow ink. Sorry about the quality of the pictures I havn't had access to the right kind of lighting I need since I moved house.
I've had a bunch of these killer fungoid beasts sitting around waiting to be painted for a while now, in fact I purchased them back when GW's mailorder service still did individual components, so I ordered 1 of each type of Squig they did from both the modern and classic ranges of Squigs to make sure I'd have as much variety as possible. These are the first 4 I've painted so far, but there's a lot more to go and I even have a few Squig-Hoppers and some squig-like beasts from other ranges sitting in a box some where, hopefully I'll get them all painted one day.
